CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla — The three astronauts that were inducted into the U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame Saturday, April 20 spoke with members of the media just prior to the induction ceremony. During the question and answer session that followed, they detailed what they believed their role was, what led them to be honored, and what their thoughts on the current state of the U.S. space program are.

This year’s inductees included Bonnie Dunbar, a veteran space shuttle astronaut who flew on the largest crew (an international mix of eight astronauts) ever to roar to orbit aboard the space shuttle; Eileen Collins, the first female pilot and commander of a space shuttle mission, as well as the commander of the 2005 Return-to-Flight mission STS-114; and Curt Brown, a veteran of six space shuttle missions including the flight that saw Mercury astronaut and former U.S. Senator John Glenn return to orbit.
