Chris Hadfield Brings David Bowie’s ‘Space Oddity’ to the ISS

In what is being called the first music video recorded in space, Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield posted his own version of David Bowie’s classic hit “Space Oddity” (1969) on YouTube last Sunday. It was his last day as commander on the International Space Station, and he ended his stay there with style.

The video is beautifully done, featuring Hadfield floating around the station with his guitar, while the Earth can be seen through the windows far below. A simple, elegant, and moving concept, showing what it is like to be floating free in space above our planet. As of this writing, the video has already been viewed over 11,000,000 times!

David Bowie himself responded to Hadfield, tweeting “Hallo Spaceboy…” Cool.

Hadfield is already well known for the many beautiful photos he has taken while in orbit and posted on his Twitter feed. He successfully returned to Earth late last Monday, after spending about five months in space.
