Nose to Nose: Apollo 10 mission commander Thomas Stafford has a friendly encounter with the well-known beagle “Snoopy.” The famous hound from “Peanuts” cartoon fame served watch over NASA’s Manned Flight Awareness Program and also was honored by the Apollo 10 crew who named their Lunar Module after him. The Command Module, of course, was named after “Charlie Brown.” Photo was taken at Kennedy Space Center in May 1969.

  1. I seem to recall that someone asked him if he had thoughts of actually touching down on the lunar surface. He might have had a “twinkle” in his eye when he answered but in any event, there was no landing radar on the LM making it impossible to achieve. An interesting thought no less. Stafford is truly one if the great pioneers!
