The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) unveiled a new website where victims or witnesses of laser incidents may file an official report. The website was developed to make it easier for pilots, crew members, air traffic controllers, or witnesses to report laser incidents so that the local authorities may be promptly informed. With a near exponential increase in laser incidents in the United States since 2005, the FAA has been taking steps to inform the public about the dangers of lasers pointed at aircraft as well as find those responsible.

The website provides three different categories for reporting incidents depending on the role of the witness of the incident. Information is also provided on the number of laser incidents reported in the United States since 2005. The website also aims to shed light on the hazards and risks associated with aiming a laser in the cockpit of an aircraft and outlines the penalties that may be brought against a perpetrator. From January 1 through October 20, 2011 there have been 2,795 reported laser incidents in the United States.
