Impact of Project Constellation Termination:
Houston will lose 4,000 – 7,000 highly skilled engineers and scientists locally, while as many as 20,000 – 30,000 will be lost nationally.
If Johnson Space Center loses 4,000 direct jobs, Houston looses an additional 2,315, totaling 6,315; and, loss of income and expenditures locally of $567,470,263
If Johnson Space Center loses 7,000 directs jobs, Houston looses an additional 4,052, totaling 11,052; and, loss of income and expenditures of $993,072,960 – almost $1 billion
The Orion spacecraft program has invigorated Johnson Space Center; 35% of the engineers working on the Orion Crew Capsule are young professionals under the age of 35.
