NASA Still Has No Firm Direction

In a good analysis of where the U.S. human space flight program is after passage of the 2010 NASA Authorization Act (S. 3729) by Space News’ Amy Klamper, she writes in NASA Authorization Bill Still Leaves Questions Unanswered that very little has changed as NASA awaits its direction from the Appropriators. NASA is still working on Orion as if it will only be an ISS lifeboat even when the Authorization Act clearly directs NASA that Orion be the nation’s deep space crewed exploration vehicle. Unfortunately, it is doubtful that an Appropriations Bill for NASA will appear anytime before 2011.

The fight continues.
