Dragon Will Not Dock With ISS In Upcoming Mission

According to Rianovosti, Dragon will not be allowed to dock with ISS in its upcoming mission. Dragon will however conduct proximity operations (proxops) with ISS.

There has been some question as to whether SpaceX’s Dragon spacecraft would be allowed to dock with ISS on its first mission to the space station. Based on the original COTS agreement milestones, as listed in GAO-09-618 [20], this upcoming mission will fulfill Milestone 19’s Demo 2 Mission requirements, which was originally scheduled for November 2009. Left remaining are milestones 20 – 22 that were scheduled for the first quarter of 2010.

“We will not issue docking permission unless the necessary level of reliability and safety is proven. So far we have no proof that this spacecraft duly complies with the accepted norms of spaceflight safety.” – Alexei Krasov, head of the human spaceflight department of Roscosmos
