TITUSVILLE, Fla — Representatives from two aerospace organizations sat down and offered up their thoughts about the upcoming Space Day event that will be held March 6 in Tallahassee, Fla. Frank DiBello, with Space Florida, and Don White, the general manager for Astrotech, detailed how the annual event helps to improve awareness between the aerospace community, the Florida legislature, and the public.

Florida Space Day is held annually to allow the space community to apprise both the Florida legislature and the public that they represent about what they have been doing over the previous year. This is more important than it might seem.

Throughout the course of any given year, politicians become distracted with the day-to-day operations involved with managing their communities and the State of Florida at large. Florida Space Day allows aerospace officials to reconnect with those that help to empower them, and to remind them of all the good work that is conducted across the state in terms of space exploration.

“The nation’s space program is currently undergoing a period of transition as NASA moves away from the retired space shuttle toward one where the International Space Station is utilized and commercial access to orbit is sponsored,” said Frank DiBello, the president and chief executive officer of Space Florida, the state’s aerospace agency. “With these efforts underway, NASA will then be freed up to conduct the business that it was meant to: deep space exploration.”
