Earlier today journalists were invited to tour NASA’s 747 Shuttle Carrier Aircraft, or SCA. The modified jumbo jet, designated N905NA, arrived in Florida yesterday, and will ferry space shuttle Discovery from Kennedy Space Center to her new home at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum’s Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center next week.
Discovery will be moved from the Vehicle Assembly Building (VAB) to the Shuttle Landing Facility (SLF) this coming Saturday, where the orbiter will then be mounted atop NASA’s modified 747 for her one-way ferry flight to Chantilly, Virginia on the morning of April 17.
